Finding
POWER
In the Collective
In tough times, we remind ourselves that we face so much opposition because our fight for equality, justice, and reproductive freedom is powerful. Why would the backlash be so intense if our call for a better future wasn’t so strong, inspiring, and full of hope?
There’s no skirting around it – it's a difficult time to be an advocate, provider, and patient of sexual and reproductive health care. The good news? That’s more than half the population – and we’re standing strong despite what we’re up against.
As a leading health care provider, educator, and advocate in an abortion and gender-affirming care access state, Planned Parenthood of Greater New York is striving to meet the demands of today, tomorrow, and the future. We are a lifeline to people seeking gender-affirming hormone therapy, young people who find themselves unexpectedly pregnant, people who need HIV or STI testing delivered without stigma or judgment, those who live and work on the street, immigrants without insurance, and so many more who experience immense barriers to care.
We couldn’t be prouder of the PPGNY team, whose commitment to these patients and our greater community is unwavering, compassionate, and fierce, especially in the face of the anti-abortion sentiment, xenophobia, transphobia, homophobia, and misogyny that is plaguing our culture and our legislative bodies. Every day here, we see reproductive freedom in action and the work toward a New York truly built on values of inclusion, diversity, and equality.
We provided high-quality, compassionate care to over 88,000 patients across the state this year. We also celebrated a critical win for reproductive health access with the launch of our Virtual Health Center. Now, PPGNY patients anywhere in the state can access a number of services from the comfort of their home, including medication abortion, birth control, gender affirming care, emergency contraception, and more. Since many parts of New York are rural, this means less time in the car on your way to your appointment and more time to focus on yourself. We’re proud to have provided 4,757 telehealth appointments this year, including 562 medication abortion visits, and we look forward to more!
We commit to being here for our patients, now and always, through these tough times and beyond. Our patients are the fabric of who we are, and in ensuring that we can continue to provide the quality care New Yorkers deserve, we honor our commitment to building a world of reproductive freedom and equity with all the tools at our disposal.
Always remember this: Our mission was born from resistance—built to fight against oppression and rise to moments like this. Our history of fighting injustices and decades of building resources, forging alliances, and strengthening our resolve have prepared us for this moment. We will meet this moment with urgency, bold action, and an unwavering commitment to delivering sexual and reproductive health care - which will always include abortion and gender-affirming care. We celebrate good times, but we were designed to take action when times are tough.
When we band together with ferocity and compassion to fight for the future our families want and deserve, there's nothing we cannot do. Thank you for all that you have made possible for our patients and all we’ll continue to do.

Everyone
should be able to get
abortion care.
PPGNY proudly expanded access to medication abortion through its Virtual Health Center. Safe, available, and accessible now.
Over 560 patients connected with a trusted clinician to help them conduct their medication abortion in spaces that are safe, comfortable, and most convenient for them.
Our partnership with CVS allows patients to pick up the abortion pill at their local pharmacy or nearest PPGNY health center. Through virtual health care, PPGNY clinicians can support New Yorkers through their journey.

More than 36,700 patients chose PPGNY for their abortion care and we also saw a 30% increase in out-of-state abortion patients this year. New York State Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYSDOHMH) presented PPGNY with a plaque in appreciation of our partnership in providing abortion care to patients both within New York State and beyond.

The future
belongs to
all of us.
Together, we’re reaching the most vulnerable populations and offering compassionate, culturally competent support.
Through Community Engagement and Education and Training, PPGNY is dismantling barriers to care, such as language inaccessibility, lack of insurance, high costs, and mistrust of the health care system. These efforts are instrumental in achieving our mission to ensure equitable access to sexual and reproductive health care and education for all.

A partner organization in Queens requested this staff training because they were increasingly receiving client requests for abortion referrals, and they wanted their staff to be well supported in providing compassionate, accurate connection to care. A total of 27 participants joined.

Disability Justice through Education and Innovation
Using research to drive innovation, Planned Parenthood of Greater New York launched Your Sexual Health Toolkit, created by and for youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
In the two months following the launch, more than 3,400 users visited the toolkit, with 10,400 views. This resource includes an illustrated sexual health glossary, a resource hub, real stories from self-advocates on various sexuality topics, and an online game, Our Stories, Our Journeys: A Sexual Health Game.
Preview Your Sexual Health Toolkit and Our Stories, Our Journeys: A Sexual Health Game
These resources are available in English and Spanish and can be used by young people on their own or with adults they trust! This toolkit was informed by a study conducted by the Project SHINE network that found licensed professionals, parents, and caregivers lack suitable tools and methods to communicate with youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities about sexual and reproductive health, sexuality, bodily autonomy, and consent.
Recognizing that people with disabilities have unique needs, PPGNY also successfully launched its Disability Justice initiative.
Facilitated by our Equity and Learning team, this initiative fosters open discussions about systemic oppression and addresses biases that disproportionately affect people of various abilities. Together we are cultivating essential skills to advance equity in organizational culture and practice.

Strengthening
our grassroots
POWER
We are building a more equitable health care system—one that is accessible, stigma-free, and rooted in community empowerment.
Through strategic grassroots organizing throughout 2024, our Public Affairs team successfully moved New Yorkers to pass the Equal Rights Amendment in the fall. Today, all New Yorkers are equally protected under New York State’s constitution.
The team led text banks, door knocking shifts, and tabling and crowd canvassing at Governor's Ball, Ithaca Pride, Schenectady Pride, Saratoga's Juneteenth Fest, and NYC Pride. We also held weekly ERA phone banks in both Spanish and English. We completed a staggering 837 volunteer shifts, and were inspired by the dedication and passion of our many activists.
Our team also hosted several “Safety and Nonviolence” trainings for the PPGNY NYC Escort Program, led by experts in the fields of personal safety and de-escalation techniques. PPGNY Action Fund’s PPGen Action campus chapters, as well as its constituency programs, hosted a variety of events on topics such as safe sex, migrant care, queer health services, and reproductive justice issues. We also uplifted the ongoing threats to sexual and reproductive access by the courts through programs and stakeholder engagement.

Staff and community members at a Raíz Cafecito
More than 100 Planned Parenthood supporters joined us in Albany for our annual Day of Action.
In March 2024, our activists met with 60 legislators to advocate for expansive reproductive health care policies. Patient storytellers shared their lived experiences, reinforcing the urgent need for legislative change. Together, our advocacy efforts helped secure significant victories.
Establishment of the Reproductive Freedom and Equity Program
$25 million in renewed abortion access funding
An additional $1 million in grant funding
Continued security funding for reproductive health providers
Passage of the Hospital Transparency Bill and Gender-affirming Chapter Amendments
These achievements not only protect the legal right to sexual and reproductive health care but also ensure resources are available to provide that care. By securing funding and advancing policies that remove barriers, we are building a more equitable health care system—one that is accessible, stigma-free, and rooted in community empowerment.
